Our Discharge Lounge is a facility that gives discharged patients a comfortable, safe place to wait for your medication and transport on discharge from hospital earlier in the day.
The ‘Home for Lunch’ scheme is a Trust initiative encourages discharged patients to leave the ward early and enable the admission of another patient who may be very unwell in the Emergency Department or waiting for urgent or non-urgent surgery.
While you are in the Discharge Lounge please ask a member of staff if you are not sure about any aspect of your care. You will be looked after by a Healthcare Assistant, and a Trained Nurse will be available to advise you on your medication.
The person collecting you will need to ensure that you have adequate clothing to travel home in. They should meet you in the Discharge Lounge which is situated on the main hospital corridor, opposite Accident and Emergency.
A phone is available for you to use or staff will assist you with a phone call to inform you relatives you are waiting, or are ready to be collected. We also provide food, hot drinks and biscuits while you wait.
