GP Out of Hours

The GP Out-of-Hours Service  is based at Macclesfield District General Hospital and appointments are available at Handforth Community Centre, Congleton War Memorial Hospital Minor Injuries and Knutsford Community Hospital at weekends and bank holidays at specified times only.

Patients should contact the GP Out-of-Hours Service based at Macclesfield Hospital via NHS 111.

East Cheshire NHS Trust's GP Out-of-Hours (OOH) team provides a safe and high-quality out-of-hours GP service.

The GP Out-of-Hours Service provides assessment, advice and treatment as required for urgent healthcare problems that cannot safely wait until the next time GP surgeries are open.

Patients will be asked basic information by a call handler. Patients will be then called back based on urgency of need and any necessary advice, appointments will be provided in addition to arranging GP advice and home visits.

The service does not provide

  • routine appointments
  • a repeat prescription service - these should be obtained from the patients own GP or usual pharmacy

The service is open when patients own GP surgeries are closed

Opening hours are:

  • Monday to Thursday 18.30pm to 08.00am
  • Friday 18.30pm to Monday 08.00am
  • 24 hours on bank holidays

The GP OOH Service provides

  • centre-based appointments
  • home visits

Please call 111 to contact East Cheshire NHS Trust's GP Out-of-Hours Service. All calls to the service are voice recorded for quality and training purposes. Details of all GP OOH consultations are sent to the GP surgery the patient is registered with by 8am the next working day.
