Rheumatology

The Rheumatology therapies team offer occupational therapy and physiotherapy services to patients living with Rheumatological conditions such as Rheumatoid Arthritis, Osteoarthritis and associated difficulties.

Many patients are referred directly from their Rheumatologist however referral from GPs are also accepted.

Rheumatology therapies encourages patients to self-care and to self-manage their conditions and offer:

  • Physiotherapy for a range of rheumatological conditions including AS (Ankolysing Spondylitis)
  • Fatigue and Pain self-management both 1/1 and group based
  • Hand assessment and bespoke splinting to maintain hand function as needed
  • Meditation and stress management strategies to aid in self-care
  • Onward referrals to community services including everybody leisure schemes/community therapies/carers support
  • Close liaison with consultants and specialist nurses for patients with new diagnosis
  • MDT Annual Arthritis review service

All rheumatology therapy services are delivered within Macclesfield that includes outpatient therapies at MDGH, Watersgreen Medical centre and Sanders Square clinic.
