Audiology

The Audiology Service provides audiological assessment and hearing aid fitting and verification to the local community and surrounding areas. We also provide a range of aftercare/maintenance appointments for our service users.

We have a highly experienced audiology team, with specialists in tinnitus therapy, additional and complex needs and assistive devices.

Our patients will first be referred and assessed, then after assessment they will be treated, with a follow up several weeks after treatment.

We are driven to help our patients maintain an active, inclusive, healthy lifestyle; and being able to hear adequately is key to their success in doing this.

We offer high quality digital hearing aids, fitted to the latest recommendations from BSA and NICE, and accessible aftercare for any concerns or queries.

Many of our patients have been coming to us for a number of years and their repeat use of our service reflects the hard work and dedication of our team.

Appointments

We offer appointments from 8:30am until 5:30pm weekdays, alongside Saturday appointments (subject to availability). We also work across a range of sites, making our service more accessible to our users. All of our sites are wheelchair accessible.

For a referral please speak to your GP. If you are an existing service user, you can complete a self-referral, contact our reception team for more information 01625 661716.

We are able to offer domiciliary visits to those who are unable to attend the clinic. We require written notice from your GP to request the home visit service.

Aftercare appointments

We recommend that you maintain the hearing aid regularly, replacing the tubing approximately every 6 months depending upon wear to the aid. To arrange this call the booking line on 01625 663333 and request an appointment with a technician. This is a 15 minute appointment to replace the tubing and address any queries you may have. If the technician is unable to deal with your request they can arrange an appointment with an Audiologist to discuss any concerns further.

Drop off aftercare at the hub is available from Monday to Friday 9am until 5pm. Aids can be dropped off at the hub reception for repair/retube or for minor repairs and then the patient will be telephoned when ready. We endeavour to complete the same day but if we are busy it may take a little longer and patients are advised that we have no facility currently to do this whilst you wait.

Additional services

Tinnitus
We have dedicated tinnitus specialists, with a wealth of experience, available to provide rehabilitation and support to help those with tinnitus.

Additional/Complex needs
We operate an additional/ complex needs clinic to make our service accessible to those who may otherwise struggle to be assessed. This is led by an experienced member of staff, and may involve support staff in order to give the best chance of gaining reliable hearing results.

Assistive listening devices
We are currently developing our provision of assistive listening devices, working alongside Phonak to ensure we can offer the best support and technology to patients. At present staff are able to discuss the availability of assistive devices and sign post patients to appropriate places to purchase these items. They can then return to clinic to have these activated.

Other services
As a department we are able to offer a volunteer service coordinated by our own staff to support our service users. We also have links with the Deafness Support Network (DSN) based in Macclesfield, and can sign post service users to lip-reading classes in the local area.
