Children’s Outpatient Services

The Children’s Outpatients Service is delivered from a child friendly and welcoming department based at Macclesfield District General Hospital.

Children are seen by consultant paediatricians who work as part of a team of professionals including experienced children’s nurses, play specialists, allied practitioners, support workers and clerical staff. Apart from general paediatric clinics, there are various other speciality clinics with visiting consultants from tertiary centres, phlebotomy (blood testing) clinics and specialist immunisation services.

All of our specialties services are based at Macclesfield Hospital on the Children’s Ward.

  • Paediatric Respiratory Service
  • Paediatric Diabetes Service

YOU SAID WE DID
“It would be great to have more child-friendly food options to improve the hospital experience for children.” The trust worked with the kitchen to provide finger food options as well as hospital meals to make mealtimes more appealing to children during their stay in hospital.
“A larger changing bed would be helpful for older children with disabilities.” The trust has now raised enough money to purchase a larger changing bed in order to meet patient needs.
“Long waiting times at outpatients can be tricky with young children.” The trust has now implemented a self check-in kiosk in order to speed up wait times and improve patient flow.
“More activities for older children in the waiting area, in addition to the range of activities already available for young children, would be great.”

The trust worked with a local high school to develop activities for older children, including comfort packs to support those suffering with mental health issues.

The comfort packs include hot chocolate sachets, a fidget spinner, mindfulness information, and a notebook to write down thoughts.
