Renal Medicine

Renal medicine, or nephrology, is the speciality dealing with diseases of the kidneys. Our renal medicine service provides our patients a range of services for people who have a variety of kidney problems.

A major part of the work of renal specialists is the management of patients with acute kidney injury or advanced chronic kidney disease.

Our care is jointly provided between Fresenius Medical Care Renal Services LTD and The Department of Renal Medicine which is based at Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust Hospital. Our objective is to increase the life expectancy and to improve the quality of life of patients with End Stage Renal Disease (ESRD).

East Cheshire NHS Dialysis Unit

The unit is nurse led and patient management is based on a team nursing approach. Each patient is allocated a named nurse. There will always be a Registered Nurse on duty with a recognised renal qualification and/or equivalent renal dialysis experience. Treatment is provided in accordance with the policies and procedures set out by Fresenius medical care Renal Services LTD in alignment with your referring NHS Renal Unit.  Patients are reviewed by the Consultant Nephrologist at center based clinics. The renal dietitian visits the unit to review and support patients.

We provide Haemodialysis (HD) and Haemodiafiltration (HDF) as per individualised patient prescription for patients with renal failure aged over 18 years. Holiday dialysis treatment (HD/HDF) is available and encouraged for stable patients visiting the local area where unit capacity permits.

The dialysis stations are each equipped with an adjustable haemodialysis chair or bed, an individual television and Wi Fi is available. Refreshments such as tea, coffee, biscuits and sandwiches are provided during the patients dialysis.

Our centre is open Monday to Saturday between the  hours of 06.30 – 18.00.
