Occupational Therapy

Occupational Therapy is used to assess and treat people with physical, emotional or cognitive impairments.

The core ethos of Occupational Therapy is to help people achieve and maintain their independence in daily living activities and enhance their quality of life.  It provides practical support to enable people to achieve as much as they can for themselves to allow them to live as independently as possible.

The Occupational Therapy Service provides a range of treatments and interventions to patients and clients of all ages. The service is delivered to people with physical disabilities and /or learning disabilities and people with mental health problems.

The Occupational Therapy Department treats patients with physical illness or disability through specific activity to enable them to reach their maximum level of function and independence.

Our services

Your occupational therapist will look at how you carry out day-to-day activities following accident or illness, and then work with you to enable you to carry out these tasks safely and as independently as possible. We work with other staff to ensure that your discharge from hospital is planned and carried out safely and effectively.

Assessment and treatment can be carried out on the wards, pre-operative clinics, in the Occupational Therapy Department or during home visits.

The therapists often work alongside other experts, including:

  • Physiotherapists
